Deferment
Deferment lets you delay starting your course. Usually, you can defer for up to a year, but some institutions let you defer for longer. Others do not allow deferment.
In most cases, you can defer when you respond to your QTAC offer. The institution contacts you to advise what to do next.
Institution deferment policies
Select an institution for information on their deferment policy.
Australian Catholic University
Applicants who are offered an undergraduate place at the university for 2021 may defer their study for a maximum of one year or until 2022.
A student who was granted deferment in the previous admissions cycle need not re-apply for that course through QTAC; commencement of study is administered by ACU directly.
Deferred students re-applying via QTAC for entry to a different course at ACU are subject to quota.
Australian Maritime College
Successful applicants may apply to defer commencement of their studies. Deferrals may not be permitted in all courses, are not granted automatically and will not be granted to allow the commencement of another tertiary course.

Phone the Student Centre on 1300 363 864 for more information or visit Australian Maritime College’s website.

Griffith College
Griffith College provides for most persons, who have been made an offer to study at Griffith College, to defer the commencement of their study in that program for a period of one year.
An applicant who wishes to defer should respond to QTAC accordingly. Griffith College will contact the applicant in writing as soon as possible, automatically approving their request for deferment. Once an applicant’s deferment has been approved Griffith College will send them a revised offer letter.
Applicants are not entitled to hold a deferred place and apply for other programs. If an applicant wishes to apply for other programs, including Griffith College programs, they must apply through QTAC. An applicant’s deferred place may be withdrawn if they are subsequently excluded from another tertiary institution; neglect to notify Griffith College about a change of address; or apply for other programs through QTAC.

More structured programs can only be commenced in Sem 1 – e.g. B Physiotherapy (Hons).
