Course outline

This short course provides a foundation in human behaviour, approaches to counselling and interpersonal skills, as well as a focus on the importance of the person of the practitioner. With only four units, the course has been developed on a pedagogy that values experiential learning and face-to-face interaction, with an emphasis on understanding the human person of both the client and the counsellor. The course is offered in mixed mode, with some units being available on campus or in intensive mode only. The course serves as an entry point to the Bachelor of Counselling, subject to additional personability requirements being met. Student feedback shows that CHC counselling students value highly the small class sizes and close interaction with staff. Feedback from employers of CHC graduates consistently report on their high levels of knowledge, job readiness, skills and industry awareness fostering best practice.
