Course outline

This course provides an understanding of the normal structure, biochemistry and physiology of the mammalian body and the processes leading to disease. The course aims to make graduates job ready. Students are exposed to current technologies, learn techniques and develop skills that are widely transferable to the workplace. Students work in well-equipped laboratories with scientists involved in cutting-edge medical research. The course is multidisciplinary, with contributions from several fields of study, including anatomy and physiology, pharmacology and biochemistry, microbiology and parasitology, immunology and epidemiology, and pathology and pathobiology. Note

Students commencing studies mid-year will complete the course in 3.5 years.

Other requirements

Students undertake clinical placements at health facilities across northern Queensland during their studies. Prior to taking professional placements, students must provide evidence of immunity to hepatitis B, MMR, varicellla, and pertussis, and current Provide First Aid and CPR certificates. A Suitability Card is required and an Australian Federal Police check may be required; refer to institution.

English, Literature, English and Literature Extension or English as an Additional Language (Units 3 and 4, C); Mathematical Methods (Units 3 and 4, C); Chemistry (Units 3 and 4, C); Completion of Year 12 or attained age 18 years
