Course outline

Biotechnologists design innovative products and technologies. They work across new frontiers in health, agriculture, science and engineering. This collaborative, transdisciplinary program spans many scientific and engineering disciplines. You’ll learn molecular genetics, bioinformatics, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, cells and genes. Study physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, and other essential subjects to develop your core technical, laboratory and commercialisation skills relating to successfully delivering biotechnology products to global markets. Build your expertise in one of five specialist areas: Agricultural Biotechnology, Chemical and Nano Biotechnology, Medical Biotechnology, Molecular and Microbial Biotechnology or Synthetic Biology and Industrial Biotechnology. Choose to undertake a Student Industry Placement or Internship to gain further practical experience in solving technical or operational problems. You will be equipped for a wide variety of employment opportunities in Australia’s thriving life sciences sector, which includes agricultural biotechnology (plant and animal), medical technology (including biotherapeutics, drug design, diagnostics and devices), chemical technology, nanotechnology and industrial biotechnology. You may work in a wide range of possible roles in regulatory affairs, quality assurance, clinical trial operations management and consulting, with graduates working in industry, venture capital, pharmaceutical companies, research institutes, and government agencies.
